Say hello to Jag (she/her), head of operations.

Q. Hey Jag, introduce yourself!

Hi there, I'm Jag Collier, I've been with Very for three years now (where did the time go?!) and I look after our operation at Skygate. I have a husband, Ben, two boys aged 11 and 13 (Kayden and Dylan) and I'm also dog-mum to a short haired German Sheperd called Koa. I'm also a senior advisor for our colleague-led network R@VE (Race at Very).

Q. Tell us about your career at Very so far.

I started my career at Very as a senior operations manager back in March 2019, working to deliver the business’s world class fulfilment center in the East Midlands, Skygate. Leading the teams and operation through testing, go-live and the global pandemic was a huge challenge for any leader to overcome.

Nobody in hindsight would choose to go live on the 1st day of the National lockdown, but we did it and I'm so proud of the team!

Since then I moved into a senior role as head of site operations, giving me the opportunity to broaden my network further across the business.

Q. Wow, it's been quite the ride since you started with us! Tell us about any challenges you've had to overcome along the way?

Generally within the logistics industry, female leaders like myself are rare. I am proud that at Skygate we already have a number of females in other senior positions and a growing pipeline of female talent for the future.

I'd advise any female wanting to progress their career to understand their personal style and play to their natural strengths, rather than over-indexing on how you perceive things should be done.

Q. Great advice. Who inspires you?

I've been inspired by a female operations director I worked for in the past, she had strong leadership qualities of which I learnt from and developed towards. She was successful operationally but also brought empathy and connection with her team.

Q. We love that! Finally, what does success look like for you?

Being comfortable bringing your authentic self to work, and that’s in all elements.

For me this includes being part of R@ve and being able to share my cultural background being a female Sikh leader. For other people that could be their families or their interests, its about creating a safe environment to work within.

We loved getting to know more about you Jag, and seeing your lovely family pics!
