About the role

You will proactively work with the Principal Data Governance Lead, Data Management and Governance Manager and wider business to help implement and embed data governance across our Tribes and The Very Group as a whole. You will be responsible for creating processes and procedures that supports a culture of effective data management, governance and control. You will also work to ensure ongoing compliance with current and future data protection regulations and industry best practice.

The Data Governance lead will work with the Principal Data Governance Lead and closely with the business on identifying risks and areas of improvement. Improving key documents, assets and processes across the business and highlighting risks appropriately. You will also help to embed the new data governance catalogue into the business by driving engagement with tribes, data owners, data stewards and key stakeholders

The role holder will be required to influence senior managers up to exec level across the business to ensure that data governance is at the forefront of any planning and decision-making involving data.

While the role holder will have no direct line management responsibility, this is a role which will require you to exert influence across all areas and levels of the business to ensure that full value is extracted from The Very Group’s data asset.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Help to embed our data catalogue by implementing new processes and helping to drive engagement across the business
  • Develop a risk-based programme of work for Data Privacy and Governance as Workstream lead
  • Create and maintain an effective, central system of all data governance policies and supporting control documents.
  • Work with the business and IT stakeholders to ensure that business processes, systems/applications and procedures are effective in meeting the current and future data protection legislation.
  • Support with the management of Data Stewards and Business Data Owners, ensuring that they comply with agreed processes and procedures to maintain the ongoing level of data integrity.
  • Provide regular reporting to the Principal Data Governance Lead
  • Deputise for the Principal Data Governance Lead at key meetings as and when required


What you'll bring

  • Previous experience within a Data Governance field however the essential
  • A strong understanding and experience of GDPR, DPA 2018 and PECR legislation.
  • Experience of working with data catalogue tools will be advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills - confident and articulate communicator liaising with both internal and external contacts. Able to build relationships, impart information and ensure action is carried out to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to demonstrate a process orientated mind set to ensure we are set up for success.
