About the roles:

We're looking for a Delivery Manager for our Logistics and Fulfilment Technology team. For us, a Delivery Manager is accountable for the effective delivery of complex, high-risk products and services.

Here you'll have hands-on experience across a broad range of products and services, delivering throughout the entire product life cycle. You'll be accountable for the team’s output and will be the main point of escalation.

You'll work hand in hand with our Product Managers and Technical Leads in order to influence and define a path to meet our commercial aims.

Logistics and Fulfilment Story

The logistics and fulfilment functions at The Very Group are responsible for the end to end supply chain. This includes distribution of goods from across the globe into our fulfilment operation and out to the homes of our 4.5 million customers. Our inbound logistics team work closely with our sourcing teams, logistics partners and suppliers to move over 5,000 containers into our fulfilment centres per annum. Our brand new, state of the art, automated fulfilment centre in the East Midlands process over 40 million items per year with the ability to process orders in less than 30 minutes. Our outbound logistics team work closely with our delivery partners to ensure we delight our customer with every delivery.

The logistics and fulfilment tribe consists of four squads that sit across the functional areas. The squads are responsible for all change activity and technical support. Each squad works to a roadmap of change that drives business improvements and customer enhancements. The changes vary from large scale transformations to small change continuous improvements.

Each squad is multi-discipline and includes product management, delivery, business analysis. engineering, technical architecture and quality assurance. The squad follow agile processes to deliver regular improvements to the customer experience and incremental business benefit.

The squads have touchpoints across the business and play an important part in delivering our business goals and strategy. There has been significant investment in our technology stack which currently includes Java & Spring Boot, JavaScript, Go, Python, Event Driven architectures, Sterling Order Management (OMS), Amazon AWS services such as AWS API gateway, Lambda, Apache ActiveMQ, ECS, EKS, Fargate.

Scope of the role:

We need your help maintaining delivery momentum at an Expert level. For us this means you know how to optimise the delivery flow of teams. You'll be experienced in actively addressing the most complicated risks, issues and dependencies including where ownership exists outside the team or where no clear ownership exists. We need the right person to help identify innovative ways to unblock issues.

As an expert in Agile and Lean practices, you'll know how to coach and lead teams in Agile and Lean practices already. This role needs a recognised expert, someone that advocates these approaches, continuously reflects and is able to challenge the team.

Here you can create or tailor new ways of working.

To be successful in the role, we need a top communicator, someone who can mediate between people and mend relationships, particularly someone who is confident communicating with stakeholders at all levels. As you may imagine, our stakeholders expectations are high and we'll need you to facilitate discussions about high risk and complexity even within constrained timescales.

We want to be known as the best in class for this space, so here you can speak and represent the community to large audiences inside and outside of the Very Group.

Of course though to be successful in this role, it's safe to say there is a fair amount of Planning.

Can you process in a very complex environment? Can you plan beyond product delivery? Can you can identify dependencies in plans across services and coordinate delivery?

All this comes together and runs smoothly with Process. Here we'll need you you to identify and challenge organisational processes of increasing complexity and those processes that are unnecessarily complicated. You'll be able to add value and have the ability to coach the organisation to inspect and adapt processes.

So can you apply experience of multiple parts of the product life cycle? Can you recognise when it is right to move forward and when it is right to stop? Can you can recognise the appropriate deliverables and the right people to meet these? If so we need you to help work with other agile delivery operations throughout the product life.
