Principal Cloud Engineer
We’ve been reinventing shopping experiences for over a century. Technology has played a huge part in that, helping us transition from catalogues’ to pureplay online retail, but we’re not the finished article.
As the UK's largest integrated retail and financial services provider, we have a pretty unique position across three huge industries (retail, technology and credit) and our ambition is bold, to build the number one shopping destination for shoppers who value credit anywhere online. But we believe with our passion and track record for reinvention, we can improve how the world pays and shops for the things they love. Think you can help us? Read on...
We’re always looking for talented people to join us on this journey, to work within a team of 100+ great software engineers. Our Engineering community have a passion for tech, our customers and ensuring our solutions are the best they can be.
We’re looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer to join a fantastic team within Cloud Infrastructure.
The team are already hard at work on one of our most ambitious rebuild projects to date and we’re looking for your support on this. There will be a natural cross over to all Cloud related development here in The Very Group so it’s an incredibly diverse role.
Our rebuild project is focused on breaking up the current website application into microservices, this includes a brand new Node.js and React frontend, as well as a new CMS and using a full CI/CD development and deployment model.
For this we’ve chosen AWS and will be utilising that tech stack so we’re talking around:
Java Spring Boot Microservices, Node.js microservices, AWS Event-based architecture, Groovy, Gradle, Jenkins, AWS, Docker, AppDynamics, Kibana and Elastic Search
Our Principal Engineers work as Tech Leads within autonomous product teams delivering products that are part of the rebuild and in squads aligned to our other key business goals.
We think you’d be great in this role if you’ve come from a Tech Lead in a DevOps focused role previously and ideally, having worked on medium-large scale Cloud migration projects. You will also be used to mentoring and coaching more junior members of a team.
We’re looking for great thought leadership and the ability to convey ideas based on knowledge and experience in a Cloud DevOps role.
Things to ask yourself, can you:
Explain very technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders?
Carry out technical prioritisation based on project requirements?
Are you approachable and available to help more junior members of the team when technical issues arise?
It would be fantastic if you have or are working towards an AWS certification or are interested in pursuing one.
Interested and ideally has experience of TDD
So if this sounds like you and if you have the ability to pick the best technical solution to a problem and demonstrate that this is based on knowledge and experience and have a deep understanding of networking in an AWS environment then we would like to hear from you.
