About the role
This role has responsibility for The Very Group Ireland balance sheet, management accounts, year end audits and treasury. This includes production of monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, securitisation reporting and quarterly board packs with supporting analysis. Monitoring the quality of outputs produced by the finance team is a key element of this role.
The role is also responsible for managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and all tax submissions (VAT, Payroll & Corp Tax) for TVG Ireland.
Scope of Role
Nature and Area of impact:
This role has responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of The Very Group Ireland balance sheet, management accounts and all supporting finance areas.
This directly impacts external financial and compliance reporting and therefore adoption of the correct accounting treatment is essential.
Leadership:
- Prioritisation, delegation and reviewing of workload for Accounts Assistant.
- Lead by example through consistent high performance.
- Play a key role within the finance team that consists of having a strong presence and ability to influence at all levels.
Budget/Financial:
- Manage a headcount budget of circa (1 people).
- Prepare Cost of Employment budget for sign off by company directors.
- Advises the wider functional teams in managing their individual budgets, providing challenge and insight on all forecast and budget drivers that enables better decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Balance Sheet, Management Accounts & Year End Audit:
- Leads the on-time, accurate and complete timely monthly period end accounting process for TVG Ireland.
- Presents monthly management accounts to CFO for sign off.
- Leads the completion of TVG Ireland annual statutory accounts and primary contact for external auditors.
- Reviews and delivers key accounting outputs including monthly P&L result and quarterly Board submissions
- Oversees and approves all month end group submissions
- Challenge decisions made around provisioning and advise on best practice
- Responsibility for identification, management and resolution of control and process weaknesses around TVG Ireland accounting and provisioning
- Challenge and understanding of all forecast and budget drivers to provide value adding commentary
- Lead TVG Irelands understanding of key balance sheet risks and sensitivity to internal and external factors
- Keeping up to date with new IFRS accounting standards and contributing to their future impact on the HS balance sheet.
- Understanding key commercial drivers into balance sheet values and movements
- Completes monthly reconciliations from across financial control to ensure they are appropriate and adequate and provide feedback to the department for continuous improvement.
- Prepares management accountancy packs for TVG Ireland Executive Board
- Evaluates and presents opportunities and risks within the balance sheet to key stakeholders.
Manages Treasury for TVG Ireland:
- Manage the weekly R&P cashflow for the TVG Ireland business.
- Manage loans to SDG (circa +€20m)
- Inter-company payments (circa €45m pa)
- Tax payments (circa €13m pa)
- Work with Group Treasury
- Approver on the Bank for all payments
- Manage/Review the securitisation weekly, monthly reporting cash flow submission.
- Annual Securitisation Audit
- Maintains a strong working relationship with contacts in AIB, Atlas, BNY and TMF.
- Quarterly business reporting to AIB and Atlas Banks
Manages the various Irish Revenue Tax returns for TVG Ireland:
- Prepare all bi-monthly VAT returns (circa €12m pa)
- Prepare Corp Tax both preliminary and final returns (circa €1m pa)
- Submit Payroll Tax (circa €0.3m pa)
- Assist with customs requirements Additional:
- Oversees Payroll for TVG Ireland to the annual value of €3.5m
- Manages accounts payable for TVG Ireland
- Manages accounts receivable for TVG Ireland
- Inputs and advises on annual budgeting & forecasting cycle
- Leads Finance in Internal Audit reviews
- Ad hoc project work as directed by Finance Director.
Essential Skills and Experience
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant (3+ years PQE) within industry.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, with the ability to review new legalisation and ascertain the impact of any changes in accounting and reporting legalisation on the business.
- Working knowledge of Irish taxation obligations, VAT, Income, Employer and Customs
- Ability to work with external auditors and advisors understanding their needs and requests and providing clear concise and accurate information.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy essential with an extensive understanding of the overall business
- Analytical skills
- Strong communication skills to both a finance and non-finance audience
- Ability to juggle demands from key stakeholders, prioritise and allocate time efficiently and can work effectively to tight deadlines.
- Ability to use own initiative to develop their own way of working and identify ways to improve things and driving change within the team.
