About the role.
You’ll lead all internal and external communications for The Very Group, ensuring our communications strategy and narrative is clear, compelling, and aligned to our vision, values and long-term priorities. You’ll be responsible for protecting and enhancing our brand reputation, guiding corporate messaging, and ensuring clear and consistent communication across all audiences.
Reporting to the chief people officer, you’ll lead a talented communications team of 7 and partner closely with senior leadership to deliver impactful communications strategies that support our business goals.
What you'll be doing:
Strategy & leadership
- Shape and deliver a clear, aligned communications strategy covering both external and internal audiences.
- Partner with the Exec and senior leaders to ensure our narrative, tone and priorities land consistently.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing communications team.
External communications
- Oversee all corporate comms, including press activity, media responses, thought leadership and digital channels.
- Manage reputational issues and support crisis communications when needed.
- Build strong relationships with media, advisors, regulators and key stakeholders.
Internal communications
- Lead the internal comms team to deliver engaging, timely communications and colleague events.
- Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all internal channels.
- Equip leaders with the tools they need to communicate effectively with their teams.
About you.
You’ll bring a strong mix of strategic leadership, exceptional judgement and hands-on communications expertise.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Significant experience leading external communications in a complex organisation, ideally within retail or financial services.
- Proven ability to influence and build strong relationships at every level, including Exec and shareholder representatives.
- Experience leading and developing high performing teams.
- Deep knowledge of internal communications strategies, tools and best practice.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills and experience overseeing largescale events.
- Confidence working under pressure, managing complex issues and navigating fastmoving situations.
- The ability to show good judgement and decisiveness, particularly in challenging situations.
- Proficiency with digital communication channels and content production tools.
- A collaborative, energetic mindset, with enthusiasm for contributing to wider business culture.

You can expect a two-stage interview process for this position:
1st stage - An 45 minute video call with the hiring team to discuss your skills and relevant experience. This is a great opportunity to find out more about the role and to ask any questions you may have.
2nd Stage – A one-hour formal task based interview where you can expect both competency and technical questions.
