About the role
The Tech Lead is a key role within a Software or Data Engineering sub-community providing technical leadership and guidance to Engineers to deliver and maintain operationally secure, stable, and performant code in line with TVG Engineering standards in a DevSecOps manner.
A Tech Lead is technically experienced across a breadth and depth of technical solutions and emerging technology. This role will lead by example, offer mentorship and is a pivotal role in architecture, design, coding practices and reviews.
The Tech Lead is at the forefront of solving challenging technical problems, and responsible for engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the sub-community across all technical communities.
About the Team
We’re creating a brand-new AdTech (Advertising Technologies) squad encompassing the digital tools, software and platforms TVG use to manage, deliver, target and analyse digital marketing activity. This squad will be central to The Very Group’s evolution in digital marketing.
This hybrid, cross-functional team will consist of software and data engineers, data specialists, and analysts, collaborating to deliver an ambitious and innovative roadmap. Operating at the intersection of software, data, privacy, and digital marketing, the team will develop solutions that drive real business impact. The squad is accountable for key capabilities such as:
- The collection and management of user consent through cookie management
- Data integrations with our trusted 3rd parties that provide the TVG Marketing team with quality, rich data to feed campaign execution and measurement
- First Party Data Activation – leveraging our data asset to improve the customer experience and drive customer engagement
- Oversight of digital data management and tagging across diverse platforms
- Orchestration of services Integration and orchestration of services across AWS, Google Cloud, Celebrus and OneTrust
Key Responsibilities
- All key design decisions around data engineering across the technical eco-system
- Adoption of engineering best practice and proactively leading continuous improvement
- Ensuring monitoring, alerting, and observability is consistently implemented.
- Ensuring the solutions are operationally optimal, resilient, secure, efficient, effective and cost optimised,
- Ensuring all software products comply with TVG’s current policies and standards, and where they don’t own the timely remediation.
- Leading innovation and technology enhancement opportunities
- Leading on production incident resolution when needed.
- Identifying obstacles, risks and issues that could impact the software products and work with all stakeholders required to mitigate them.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that the skills required are known and a path to address is agreed
- Working with Engineering Managers, Product Owners, and Delivery Leads to ensure technical aspects are known and prioritised into a backlog
- Ensuring technical Root Cause Analysis is completed in a timely and appropriate manner for any operational incidents
- Alignment with other Tech Leads across the Technology and Data communities.
- Deputising for the Senior Engineering Manager when needed.
Essential knowledge and skills
- Significant experience of defining and delivery of the delivery of technical products/solutions
- Familiar with operating in a lean, agile DevSecOps based environment
- Proven track record of technical senior/leadership role(s)
- Proficiency in Cloud technology, programming languages, frameworks, and modern software engineering tooling. For example, AWS services, RDBMS technologies, Python, Spark, Helix.
- Demonstrable experience of providing clear technology leadership, direction and decision making for a whole team.
- Experience of building, integrating, maintaining, and managing complex software architectures (SaaS and in-house), ideally across multi-cloud environments.
- Experience of building software applications with security, reliability, scalability, high availability, and concurrency from the outset.
- A strong collaborator, communicator, and decision maker.
- Experience in FinOps.
- Confident and comfortable to share stories internally and externally to build our Very Group brand and credibility to attract and retain talent.
